A British-Israeli hostage who was abducted by Hamas alongside his mother has been murdered in captivity,it has emerged.

Nadav Popplewell,51, originally from Wakefield,West Yorkshire, was confirmed dead on Monday, following new intelligence received by Israel, according to The Times of Israel. His body remains in Gaza.

Hamas, which is designated a terrorist group by the UK government, last month released undated footage of Popplewell showing him visibly bruised and injured in his right eye, talking to the camera to give his name and age.

Just hours later they issued a second video in which they claimed he had died of wounds suffered during an Israeli missile strike on Gaza a month before.

An Israeli community has now confirmed Popplewell's death, issuing a statement saying: 'Kibbutz Nirim announces with deep sorrow the death of abductee Nadav Popplewell in the captivity of Hamas in Gaza.'

Popplewell was taken captive alongside his mother Channah Peri,79,from their home in Nirim during Hamas' October 7 attack.

His older brother Roi Popplewell,54,was shot and killed by terrorists behind his home on the kibbutz that same day.

Peri was released in November during the temporary ceasefire deal.

Popplewell appeared in the Hamas propaganda video in May. He was visibly bruised and injured in his right eye, talking to camera to give his name and age.

The chilling,11-second clip ended with a question mark on the screen while ominous music played in the background.

Then, three hours later,Hamas issued a new video which claimed that Popplewell had been injured in an IDF airstrike in April before succumbing to his injuries.

The horrifying video showed cartoon blood slowly dripping down the screen over Popplewell's face while a caption stating: 'military pressure = failure and death'.

Israel launched its war in Gaza after Hamas' October 7 attack,in which terrorists stormed into southern Israel, killed some 1,200 people - mostly civilians - and abducted about 250.

Israel says around 100 hostages are still captive in Gaza, along with the bodies of around 30 more.
